I've gotten to know author Jeff Biggers through our mutual concern about Mexican American Studies. We've emailed, facebooked and phoned. I even read his enlightening book, "Reckoning at Eagle Creek," about the devastation caused by coal mining in Southern Illinois. But I've never met the guy. I plan to correct that Friday when I attend the kickoff of his new book, "State Out of the Union: AZ and the Final Showdown over the American Dream."
It's at the Rialto Theater (318 E Congress) this Friday, Sept. 28, beginning at 8pm. The event is free, though there's a $5 suggested donation for the Raza Defense Fund. There will be music by Salvador Duran, The Jons, Carlos Arzate and Mariachi Nueva Melodia.
