AZ Tea Parties won’t endorse Hayworth or McCain

by David Safier

Tea partiers, those outspoken folks who refuse to be silenced, have gone silent on the Hayworth-McCain battle.

The organizers of the four largest Arizona Tea Party organizations – including the Tucson Tea Party, Greater Phoenix Tea Party, Flagstaff Tea Party, and Mohave County Tea Party – issued a joint press release regarding their unified decision to decline endorsing a candidate in the Arizona Senate primary race between John McCain, J.D. Hayworth, and Jim Deakin.

A supreme act of cowardice from a group of people who say they don't stand for politics as usual. I guess it's OK to call for armed insurrection, but to state a preference for one R candidate over another? That would be too bold.

Fine. Let's ask Tea Party leaders about their individual preferences. Each of these forthright, outspoken people must have picked a pony in this race.

Trent Humphries (Tucson), Robert Mayer (Tucson), Kelly Townsend (Phoenix), Patrick Beck (Mohave County) and Roger Boone (Flagstaff): take one of those strong, passionate stands you're so fond of. One by one, who do you, personally, endorse for U.S. Senator, J.D. Hayworth or John McCain?
