Beautiful stuff

Fitz's tribute to his father and family is quite a break from the usual comic takes on the week's events in his Saturday column. It's also a hell of a column — a personal, cultural, sociological biography of his family in a few hundred words. None of the usual maudlin, sentimental stuff here. The undercurrent of emotion is evident, but the writing is sparse and tough. That David Fitzsimmons guy has chops.

Thanks for the terrific piece, Fitz. I'm not excerpting it here as I usually do, because I don't know what I would leave out. People need to follow the link and read it themselves.
