Cactus flowers

by David Safier
Cactus_flowers_sm These were in my backyard this morning, on a cactus I stuck in the ground as a slip a few years back that had never flowered before. Those tropical-looking flowers are about five inches in diameter.

That low performer turned out to be a late bloomer, kind of like some of my students.

Me: Harold, I had no idea you could write like that!

Harold: Yeah, well . . . (Looks down at his desk, blushing slightly in delighted embarrassment and fiddles with the essay I just handed back.)

Maybe I should begin a southwest version of an established blogging tradition: Friday Cactus Blogging.
