Christianity, God, Terrorism and Republicans

by David Safier

It's rare you get three items like this in one news cycle. Where to begin.

  • Brit Hume said on Fox that Tiger Woods should become a Christian instead of a Buddhist, but that's old news. Pat Buchanan commented on Hume's statement on MSNBC. He said of Hume, "I think he means well." When pushed about the concern that Hume might have been "denigrating Buddhists," Buchanan responded, "Well, there are not a lot of Buddhists watching Fox."
  • Rex Rammell is a Republican running for governor in Idaho. "To think that we can save the Constitution without God's help when the government of the United States is corrupt is absurdity," [Rammell] said. "We are in America's second Revolutionary War to save our freedom, which we paid for with blood. We need God's help and I'm not ashamed to ask for it."
  • Allen Quist is a Republican running for a House seat in Minnesota. "This is our fight. And this is our time. This is it. Terrorism, yes — but that's not the big battle. The big battle is in D.C., with the radicals. They aren't liberals, they're radicals. Obama, Pelosi, Walz — they're not liberals, they're radicals. They are destroying our country."

Someone else can figure out how to comment. At a  moment like this, Republicans would be "Outraged! Outraged!" I am simply struck dumb. What can you say?
