City Council candidate Tyler Vogt won’t interview with the Star

by David Safier

Following in the footsteps of Al Melvin, Frank Antenori, Dave Gowan and David Stevens, Tyler Vogt has said uh-uh to sitting down for an interview with the Star staff. Which is interesting because, if he were elected, he would have to talk with the Star kinda regularly, since the Star is Tucson's daily, and it writes, you know, about the Tucson City Council a whole lot. You might think he would love to sit down with the paper that thinks the best way to boost subscriptions is to say bad things about the City Council Dems. But you would think wrong.

Maybe Tyler is afraid he'll have to answer how he'll bring jobs and better roads to the city, like he says on his campaign signs. Even practiced reporters might have trouble keeping a straight face listening to his answers.

Vogt says he's happy to answer written questions from the paper, in writing. I guess that way he won't have to really know the answers himself. He can ask, maybe his campaign advisors, or maybe his brother Ted.

Speaking of brother Ted, if memory serves, he did an interview with the Star. (Someone, please correct me if I'm wrong.) Does that mean Tyler is the lesser of two brothers? I'm just askin'.

A TEACHER'S NOTE ON A WRITTEN Q&A: Here's a teacher's suggestion. Have Tyler go to the Star office and sit in an office with no outside communication. Confiscate his cell phone. Then give him the written questions and let him answer them — either in longhand or on someone else's computer, so he can't have hidden notes. No time limit. "Just answer in your own words, Tyler, to the best of your ability. Any questions? No? OK, begin."
