City of Tucson is winner in 2021 Wyland National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation

“Residents across the United States took part in the 2021 Wyland National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation, April 1-30, by pledging to save over 3 billion gallons of water over the next year. The annual campaign to promote water quality and water resource resiliency ended with mayors from 42 states vying to see whose city could be the nation’s most “water wise.” Winning cities with the most participants included Laguna Beach, Calif., North Port, FL, Oceanside, CA, Tucson, AZ, and Dallas, Texas.

Overall, residents around the nation made 759,000 pledges to change behaviors ranging from fixing home leaks to reducing harmful runoff into local rivers and streams. Now the fun part, residents from winning cities who took part will now be entered in drawings for thousands of dollars in eco-friendly prizes, including home irrigation equipment, apparel, cleaning supplies, and free utilities for a year.”

Carolyn’s note: Congratulations to the City of Tucson residents for winning again (won first in 2013, 2018 and 2019 ).   I’ve posted on this National Mayor’s Challenge in the past, and even won some individual prizes.  Let’s continue to work together to conserve our precious water.

City standings are at www.mywaterpledge.com. Tucson won in city size category of 300,000 to 599,999 beating out Sacramento, CA; Aurora, CO; Milwauke, WI; and Albuquerque, NM. Well done Tucsonans!
