Claudia Mendoza Wants to Ensure Student and Teacher Success as a Member of the Chandler School Governing Board

Chandler School Board Candidate Claudia Mendoza.

As a new Governing Board member on the Chandler School Board, Claudia Mendoza would like to forge a collaborative relationship with community members to ensure that teachers are respected, that they have the resources and training they need, and that the district’s students receive the same world-class education her children received.

An educator with close to 30 years of experience, if elected, Ms. Mendoza will champion:

  • Expanding Teacher Resources.
  • Embracing Diverse Perspectives and Viewpoints.
  • Empower Student-Centered Leadership.
  • Educational Equity to Elevate Outcomes.

Ms. Mendoza graciously took the time to discuss her candidacy for the Chandler School District Governing Board.

The questions and her responses are below:

What are two reasons you would like to run for election to the Chandler School District Governing Board?

“First, as a lifelong educator and CUSD parent, I am deeply committed to ensuring that all students have access to a high-quality, inclusive education that prepares them for success in life. I have seen the transformative power of education firsthand, and I want to help shape policies that support student-centered leadership and educational equity.

Second, I am running to ensure that teachers have the resources and support they need to thrive in the classroom. Educators are at the heart of student success, and we must provide them with the tools, training, and support to continue delivering exceptional instruction.”

What are two education-related issues you would promote as a Governing Board member?

One key issue I would promote is expanding teacher resources and professional development opportunities. As an educator and principal, I understand the importance of continuous learning and support for teachers to ensure they remain equipped to meet the evolving needs of students.

“Another issue I prioritize is educational equity. I will advocate for programs and policies that provide all students, regardless of background or ability, access the resources and opportunities they need to succeed. This includes promoting programs for underserved and diverse populations and ensuring inclusive practices across the district.”

What are at least two reasons you would be a better fit for the Chandler Governing Board than any of your opponents? Please explain.

“I bring nearly 30 years of experience in education, having worked as a dual language teacher, English Language Learning Specialist, Reading Specialist, and principal. This diverse experience gives me a unique, hands-on understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing students, teachers, and schools. My deep education knowledge allows me to provide informed, student-centered leadership on the board.”

“Additionally, as a CUSD mom with two children who attended Chandler schools from Kindergarten through 12th grade, I have a personal connection to the district. This gives me a vested interest in its continued success and a clear understanding of what parents and families expect from our schools.”

Is there anything that covered in the first three questions you would like readers to know about your candidacy for the Chandler School Governing Board?

“Besides my professional background, I want readers to know I am deeply committed to community engagement. Throughout my career, I have always valued collaboration with families, educators, and community stakeholders to ensure that every decision reflects the needs of our students. My candidacy is rooted in a genuine desire to serve my community and protect the legacy of excellence in Chandler schools. I am not only an advocate for our students and teachers but also for ensuring that our district remains a place where every child can succeed.”
