Conservatives Jumping Ship: David Frum

by David Safier

The "Conservatives Jumping Ship" series was supposed to end at the election, but here's another one: David Frum, former speech writer for Bush and now an author trying to figure out the shape of a new conservatism. First he said less than complementary things about Sarah Palin. Now he's leaving the National Review.

“I am really and truly frightened by the collapse of support for the Republican Party by the young and the educated,” he said.

Who's the next to leave?

Not Newt Gingrich, who said on The O'Reilly Factor,

I think there is a gay and secular fascism in this country that wants to impose its will on the rest of us, is prepared to use violence, to use harassment. I think it is prepared to use the government if it can get control of it.

Good ol' Newt. Nice to have you back. Not really.

Thanks to Steve Benen at The Political Animal for both items.
