Crandall to Murphy: Senator, you don’t know jack!

by David Safier

An amusing side note here. Yesterday I called Sen. Rich Crandall a liar for implying that schools with rich kids have better reading scores than schools with poor kids because the rich kids' teachers and administrators are better. It was either that or call him an ignoramous. Since I'm certain Crandall knew exactly how wrong-headed his statement was, I called him a liar.

Crandall called a fellow GOP Senator, Rick Murphy, an ignoramous on the Senate floor, using a different term. As quoted in the Arizona Guardian (subscription only):

"If there's one thing I can't stand its when somebody talks about something they don't known jack-squat about," Crandall said.

["Jack squat," Dr. Word notes, is a euphemism on the line of "heck," "darn" and "Cheese and crackers!" It's sound-alike swearing, but you can swear what you're saying is pure as the driven snow.]

Murphy, by the way, was criticizing First Things First, which I guess Crandall supports.

The final verdict is in. For Crandall, lying through your teeth is perfectly acceptable so long as you know jack-squat. I'm glad that's settled.
