Arizona may be at the forefront in the war against ethnic studies, but it's not alone. Texas conservatives are targeting college level ethnic studies and other diversity programs.
The Young Conservatives of Texas, according to their 82nd legislative agenda, favor eliminating funding for diversity programs, gender and sexuality centers, and ethnic and gender studies programs, saying they believe “these programs and centers distract from a university’s core mission of teaching and expend valuable resources to promote an explicitly left-wing political and social agenda.” This is the same group that targeted LGBT centers in this legislative session, pushing a bill that would make “family values” centers receive equal funding.
The reason these conservatives are against ethnic studies and diversity programs is, most of them don't consider themselves members of an ethnic group. They've blissfully unaware that they've taken the vast majority of their coursework in the Dead-White-European-Male Ethnic/Gender Studies Department.

I think they are against it because ethnic studies teaches civil rights, protesting is good, freedom of speech, the first amendment and gives one various role models who made a difference. How to stand up for yourself, things like that. I can see why they would think that could be a threat.
