Dr. Hiral Tipirneni Trounces David Schweikert in the last Fundraising Quarter

Dr. Hiral Tipirneni, the 2018 Democratic Congressional District (CD) Eight Nominee now running for the party’s nomination in CD Six raised more than twice as much in campaign donations than ethically embroiled Republican incumbent David Schweikert.

According to the April 16, 2020, Yellow Sheet Report (see link below,), Dr. Tipirneni raised $507,000. That is more than twice the $221,000 Representative Schweikert received. Both the Yellow Sheet and the Blog for Arizona’s Arizona Politics have reported that a substantial portion of the Congressman’s fundraising has gone to satisfying legal bills stemming from the Ethics investigations at his office. According to reporting from Ronald Hansen at AZ Central, this is the third time over the past year that the Schweikert campaign operated in the red.

Alaina Pemberton, the campaign manager for the Tipirneni campaign issued a statement which read:

“As a former emergency room physician, Hiral is focused on helping people at this difficult time and making sure they have access to the resources they need. That’s why she ran for Congress in the first place, to make sure every American has quality affordable healthcare, and that’s what her focus is on now.”

Arizona Congressional District Six is one of the districts the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is targeting for a potential pickup in 2020. The 2018 Democratic Nominee  Anita Malik (who is running for the nomination again along with Dr. Tipirneni, Stephanie Rimmer, and Carl Gentiles) erased close to 15 percent off Schweikert’s 2016 victory in her contest with him.

Whoever wins the Democratic nomination in August will have the advantages of funding, enthusiasm, and a demographic shift from red political leanings to blue.

That is a nice place for Dr. Tipirneni or any of the other three Democratic contenders to be.

Please remember to register/sign up for the Permanent Early Voting List (PEVL) in Arizona or any state that allows early or absentee balloting and mail in your vote by November 3, 2020. Please also remember to get any voter id a state or county office may need to process your ballot.

Remember election day is only 199 days away.

  1. Why, when directly responding to a comment does the response end up on top of the thread?

  2. Candidate Kurland, as I once long ago said to FSNT/Sharpie: “Forget it Jake, it’s Kavanagh”.

    • “FSNT Sharpie” sounds like an Elmore Leonard novel that I would read.

Candidate Kurland, John Kavanagh always does this, he does a drive-by-troll post, realizes he forgot to think things through, can’t come up with a rational argument, and then declares victory.

  3. I am always amused but never surprised at how so few people who comment on this blog actually answer questions posed. My comment involved Tipirneni’s status as a carpetbagger. Kurland dodged the question completely. This coming from a guy who wants to engage in a debate but not answer opponents’ questions.
Then comes Sharpie, who only talks about my typo and engages in an unjustified personal attack about me, a 27-year resident of District 23, being a carpetbagger. Well, at least Kurland does not hide behind an alias or engage in ad hominem attacks.

    • You are from New Jersey and your situation reminds me of John McCain’s, Arizona’s most famous carpetbagger.

Carpetbagging is common in both parties nationwide and you know this. I’m not a fan but I think it’s an odd and impotent angle of attack.

Do you think people will suddenly vote for a Republican because the Dem is new to the neighborhood?

I’m not hiding behind an alias, I’m not in politics or selling anything so no one cares who I am.

Sorry for dogging you on the “typo”, I make typos all the time, yours was just interesting because it meant the opposite of what you were saying.

How about instead I remind everyone that last week you were here complaining that people were giving money to charity instead of the government.

You’re not as good at trolling the libs as you think.

      • So you believe that only people born in Arizona are not carpetbaggers? Interesting definition and probably unique to you alone. By the way I would like to know who you are. What is your name?

        • Asking for my name is silly, and a very, very bad look for you.

One, I could give any name, so it’s a silly question.

And it’s a bad look for you because you’re the SB1070 guy, you’re in government, and you’re literally asking for my papers.

          How’s this:

          I’m Tom from Ahwatukee.

I’m a white male, 59 years or older, I generally work in management, currently for a large financial institution.

In the past I started my own business and had employees and payroll, but I never created a single job, my customers did that, by hiring my company.

I’m a recovering Libertarian. The Bush Recession and the endless wars cured me.

I actually don’t care about carpetbaggers all that much, I care about issues.

If you ever had a real challenger (and lived in your area) I would vote for them, not because you’re from New Jersey, but because I disagree with your ideas.

Your carpetbagger nonsense has not given me a good reason to vote for a Republican, so I’m not sure what you’re trying to accomplish.

          About that charity reference?

On April 13th, in response to Michael Bryan’s thoughtful and informative article “Something to Consider for Your Stimulus Payment” about giving your virus stimulus money to charity, you commented:

“Rep. John Kavanagh April 13, 2020 at 8:50 pm
How much should we add to Arizona’s projected $1.1 billion dollar deficit due to your post?”

After you posted that, several of us mocked you for giving your ALEC pals huge tax breaks and then whining when the average taxpayer was given advice on using theirs.

BTW, my dad is from Jersey, went there as a kid a few times back in the 60’s, and about 20 years ago I managed a team out there. Nice part of the country once you get out of Newark.

I’ve shared a lot here, but while I’m not a public official or selling anything and don’t see the value, if you still want my full name, please explain what a government official will do with my personally identifiable information.

      • Hi John,
I answered your question by saying I was not taking a position until after the primary. If you are just asking about anyone running in a district they don’t currently live, then I would say I am not in favor. I think you have to maintain your core. And, part of my core is local control. Local control in government and that transcends to people living in the area they are representing. With that being said, this is a case with circumstances that must be taken into consideration. When you can look and see the imaginary border from your house, it isn’t a big deal. One side of the street doesn’t have a difference from the other. CD6 is pretty dense.
Now, you voting to overturn local decisions like the one made in Tempe about exposing dark money or Bisbee about plastic bags show you to be a “Carpetbagger” when it comes to voting. Back at the ranch, not sure why you are scared to come on the show and have an adult conversation about things but you have a standing offer. Just email me at erickurland23@gmail.com
Originally, I said I would not be voting for the R under investigation and asked you if you would. You didn’t answer at all. Maybe you can join me on air and we can flesh this out?
        Best,
        Eric

  4. I will save my powder for the debate. See you then. But your failure to answer my question about the carpetbagger detracts from your “let’s debate” strategy. Debaters answer questions, they do not dodge them like you just did.

  5. I will not do anything until after the primary. I know I will not be supporting the guy under the ethics investigation. What about you, John? You for Malik?

  6. If Tipirneni wins the primary, do you think she will move into the district she wants to represent? Always a nice gesture to the constituency.

    • Hi John,
If Jay Lawrence wins the primary do you think he will agree to debate the issues? Always a nice gesture to the constituency

      • Probably will. Say, while we are chit chatting, will you be supporting the carpetbagger or Malik? Don’t you think district 23 can field its own candidates?

        • I will not do anything until after the primary. I know I will not be supporting the guy under the ethics investigation. What about you, John? You for Malik?

          • So you are dogging my question. Figured. And as a Republican, I cannot vote for Malik but were I a Democrat, I would not vote for a carpetbagger. To bad you cannot say the same. You should defend your constitutent against carpetbaggers.

          • Hey John, you’re from New Jersey.

Please, for the sake of Arizona’s reputation in the country and the world, start thinking before you post.

          • And John, you need to learn what words mean.

            Dogging
verb (dogs, dogging, dogged) [with object]
1 follow (someone or their movements) closely and persistently: photographers seemed to dog her every step.

The word you may have meant to use is dodging.

Maybe they don’t teach english in the New Jersey school system.

        • John, I was thinking. I do an internet show every weekday at 5pm. I’d love to have you on. We can talk about our different takes and show folks that there is still respect in the political world. What do you say?
