Gotta give Rand Paul this much. He's a dedicated libertarian who's not afraid to state his beliefs. He's not backing down. No sir. And that's why the Tea Party loves him and why he's gonna get elec . . .
Oh, wait a minute. One of Paul's strong positions just bit him on the backside. It seems he thinks Civil Rights laws are OK in the public sphere, but at Joe's Bar and Grill, Joe can serve who he wants and has every right to post a No Coloreds/Jews/Gays/etc. sign on his door. It's kind of like a free speech thing.
And then Paul realized he couldn't say that. So he ducked and dodged and tried not to say it. But that didn't work. So today Paul said,
[he] does in fact support the power of the federal government "to insure that private businesses don't discriminate based on race."
The media seems to be buying that as a walk back, but Dr. Word says No. Parsing the statement, all I hear him saying is, "Since it's currently the law that private businesses can't discriminate based on race, I support the government's right to enforce a law that's on the books."
There's only one way to find out if I'm right, that this is nothing but a clever verbal dodge. The next question to Paul has to be, "OK, you say the government has the right to enforce a law on the books, but do you agree with that part of the law, or do you believe a private business should be allowed to discriminate on the basis of race?"
Until Paul is asked the follow up question and answers it definitively, he still hasn't clarified his position. Until then, he should be held to his earlier statements, and every Republican in the country should be asked, "Do you agree with Rand Paul on Civil Rights?"

There is a difference between the government and everything else. Private enterprise means not government. People (and businesses that serve lunches) should be free from the encroachment of “swarms of Officers to harass our people and eat out their substance.”

What the he11? A bunch of bigots have infested this blog.
If you serve the public (i.e. serve lunch at a counter) then no, you do not have the right to turn anyone away. It’s not only the law, it’s what Jesus would do!
And, I should add, Rand Paul is a bigot. He did everything he could to avoid detection as such on Rachel Maddow. But, as usual, the truth eventually comes out.
It’s called your property. You should be allowed to do whatever you want with it as long as you don’t directly harm someone else.
Although I don’t advocate racism, etc. I recognize that private should be private.
Go Arizona! We all need to ship those mexicans back. They say two wrongs don’t make a right and two illegals should not be allowed to make a citizen.
Rand Paul doesn’t claim to be a libertarian. Rand Paul does publicly proclaim that he is a constitutional conservative.

I support Rand Paul’s position that government should not be engaging in the regulation of private business.
The day that Rand Paul advocates that marijuana, cocaine and prostitution should be legalized would be the day he can be correctly labelled as a libertarian. Until that day arrives he isn’t one.
