Since 2000, The Arizona César E. Chávez and Dolers Huerta Holiday Coalition have worked to recognize the life and legacy of civil rights activist and labor leaders César E. Chávez, Dolores Huerta, and the farmworkers movement by working together to establish a state-wide holiday on March 31, Chavez’s birthday. Through our advocacy, Pima County and the City of Tucson now recognize the holiday as a day of service on or around March 31. Arizona still does not recognize Chavez as a holiday even though he was born, raised, organized, and died in the state. The annual march and rally recognizes Chávez and Dolores, the fight for farmworkers’ rights, and the continued fight for all workers’ rights today.
