Arizona Corporation Commission Candidate Debate on Arizona PBS

As Arizona faces record-breaking heat, soaring utility rates and decreasing energy reliability, Democratic candidates Joshua Polacheck, Jonathon Hill and Ylenia Aguilar will face off Thursday evening in their second televised debate with Republican opponents for three seats on the Arizona Corporation Commission.

The ACC is currently controlled by a 4-1 Republican majority. Thursday night’s candidates include Republican challengers Rene Lopez, Rachel Walden, and incumbent Lea Marquez Peterson.
Ted Simons, the award-winning host and managing editor of Arizona Horizon on Arizona PBS, will moderate Thursday’s debate. It will air on Arizona PBS at 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. on the 26th. It will also live stream on azpbs.org and on YouTube at azpbsnow. After the 26th, it will be live at azpbs.org.

Joshua Polacheck grew up across the rural West, attending reservation schools as the child of an Indian Health Service Doctor. At 23, he was commissioned into the Foreign Service. He spent nearly two decades with the United States State Department serving America overseas, including in Mosul and Islamabad in northern Iraq, Pakistan, the Dominican Republic, and Zimbabwe, leaving after the 2016 election. In 2018, after getting his masters from the Harvard Kennedy School, he returned to Arizona to raise his family. With control of the Arizona Corporation Commission on the line, Joshua entered the electoral arena with his running mates, Ylenia Aguilar and Jonathon Hill.
