“Coconino County Treasurer Sarah Benatar and Frances Sawyer, author of the 2023 Statehouse Report “Republican Attacks on the Freedom to Invest Responsibly Falter Against Business, Labor, and Environmental Opposition“, will join us to discuss the benefits of Diversity Equity and Inclusion policies, and the right-wing’s legislative attacks on the rights of the public, private companies and government organizations to invest responsibly and hire freely and responsibly.

Sarah Benatar has been serving as Coconino County Treasurer since 2014, becoming the youngest County Treasurer in the history of Arizona. The Treasurer is elected to serve as the chief banker, chief investment manager, and tax collector for all county departments and taxing districts. Since coming to office, she has received national recognition for her work in government investing and treasury management, speaking nationally with organizations such as Governing and testifying before Congress.
Sarah serves as Treasurer for the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials, and President of the National Association of Hispanic County Officials. She is the recipient of the 2023 Government Controller of the Year Award from Controllers Council, the Athena Young Professional Award, the IRS Community Service Leadership Award, and a fellow of the American Council of Young Political Leaders. She is the proud mother of a toddler and a Bichon Frise.
Frances Sawyer leads Pleiades Strategy, a policy research and strategy firm that works to further the clean energy transition and build an economy that works for us all. Since 2022, Pleiades has tracked ongoing attacks on responsible investment by Republican politicians, alongside the historic investments by Democrats in clean energy and community infrastructure. Sawyer previously served as a policy advisor to investor and philanthropist (and Presidential candidate) Tom Steyer and as Deputy Director of External Affairs to CA Governor Jerry Brown. Her favorite hobby is picnicking.”
