| Date: July 17 @ 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm Location: Indoors at the Main Library, 101 N. Stone, Tucson 85701 Wednesday marks the fourth anniversary of Congressman John Lewis’s death. In Tucson, we will join events across the country to commemorate his life and his work to secure voting rights for all people. From 4-5 pm, we will be socializing and enjoying a barbecue. From 5:00-5:45, there will be a memorial / remembrance of Congressman Lewis with a selection of speakers from the community. With the ongoing attack on democracy, this event will highlight the urgency of this moment in our history. We intend to educate, motivate and activate our community to work toward the passage of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, the Freedom to Vote Act, the Native American Voting Rights Act, and DC Statehood.” Carolyn’s Note: Congressman John Lewis served Georgia’s CD 5 from Jan. 1987 to his death in July 2020. He was 80 years old. |
