“Dave Dunford is a retired U.S. Foreign Service officer with extensive experience in the Middle East. He served as Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman and before that was the Acting and Deputy Ambassador to Saudi Arabia His other Foreign Service assignments included Director of Egyptian Affairs in the Department of State in Washington, DC, Minister-Counselor for Economic Affairs at the American Embassy in Cairo, Egypt, and Deputy Assistant U.S. Trade Representative in the Executive Office of the President. 
Dunford has taught courses on the Arab Israeli Conflict and the Middle East Business Environment at the University of Arizona and at Arizona State University. He is on the Governing Board of the University of Arizona’s Center for Middle Eastern Studies.
In 2003, he worked for the Organization of Reconstruction and Humanitarian Assistance, and later the Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad as Senior Ministerial Liaison to Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has co-authored a book (now out of print) about this experience: Talking to Strangers: The Struggle to Rebuild Iraq’s Foreign Ministry. His latest book, published in 2019, is: From Sadat to Saddam: The Decline of American Diplomacy in the Middle East.
