LWVGT virtual forum for Pima County Treasurer applicants

April 11, 2024 @ 6:00 pm 7:00 pm MST

Long time Republican Pima County Treasurer Beth Ford is retiring, and her last day will be on April 12. The League of Women Voters of Greater Tucson is hosting a virtual forum for the two Republican applicants for the remainder of her term in 2024, on April 1 1 at 6 p.m.

Applicants are former Deputy Treasurer Patti Davidson and current Deputy Treasurer John Christopher Ackerley, also a former AZ House one term member (then LD 2). He is also the nephew of Ed Ackerley who ran for Tucson Mayor as an Independent, twice.

3rd applicant Justice of the Peace Ray Carroll in Precinct 7 withdrew his name recently: Ray Carroll withdraws from Pima County treasurer process (tucsonsentinel.com). Carroll was a long time Pima County Supervisor for D 4.

“The seat was vacated by former Pima County Treasurer Beth Ford, who on March 11 notified the Board of Supervisors of her intent to resign effective Friday, April 12. Ford, a Republican who was elected to a sixth term as Treasurer in 2020, must be replaced during the interim by another Republican according to state law.

The two applicants seeking the appointment are John Christopher Ackerley and Patti E. Davidson. Ackerley is a candidate seeking the seat in the 2024 elections. Davidson is not.

The applicants’ letters of interest, resumes, financial disclosure statements, and conflict of interest forms can be found in the Clerk of the Board’s April 1 memo to the Board of Supervisors. The memo also contains material from a third applicant, Raymond J. Carroll, who has since withdrawn his application.

The public is invited to participate in the forum. Questions for the candidates are welcome, and may be submitted through the streaming app’s chat function.”

The Pima County Board of Supervisors is supposed to select the Treasurer replacement at their April 16 board meeting. Retiring Treasurer Beth Ford has recommended that Ackerley be appointed as her successor, and so did Pima County Assessor Suzanne Droubie (D).

Already running for this Treasurer position in 2024 are Dems Brian Johnson and Sami Hamed (primary is on July 30, 2024) and Deputy Treasurer Chris Ackerley (R).
