THE FIERCE URGENCY OF NOW!

The NAACP Tucson Branch is thrilled to invite you to the 2025 Freedom Fund Luncheon, a long-standing community event celebrating civil rights, strength and growth, and the ongoing fight for justice.  In the spirit of our theme, The Fierce Urgency of Now, we celebrate advances toward our mission and fundraise to continue initiatives and programs that uplift and empower our community.  The proceeds from this impactful fundraiser are used to support our initiatives in the fight for freedom and justice, support the Black Excellence Scholarship, strengthen advocacy efforts, and pursue advancement of policies that protect our civil rights, and community engagement.

2025 HONOREES:

Black Excellence Scholarship Awardee: Elizabeth Ghartey – University of Arizona student

Black Excellence Scholarship Awardee: Felista Nabintu – University of Arizona student

Legacy Award: Anthony L. Young, Esq. – Executive Director of Southern Arizona Legal Aid, Inc.

Trailblazer Award: Trehon and Carmishun Coleman – Founders of A Better Community (ABC)

Emerging Leader Award: Jody – Inspiration for the establishment of African American Museum of Southern Arizona

President’s Award: Frank and Murryelle Bothwell – Community and cultural champions throughout Tucson

KEYNOTE SPEAKER:

Lurie Daniel Favors – renowned racial justice attorney, activist, speaker, and author. She currently serves as Executive Director at the Center for Law and Social Justice at Medgar Evers College. A lifelong advocate for Black communities, her voice resonates on national platforms, including her show, The Lurie Daniel Favors Show.
