Carolyn’s note: Two TUSD Governing Bd. seats are up for re-election in 2026, currently held by Democrat Jennifer Eckstrom and Independent Val Romero. Jennifer was Chief of State for District 2 Supervisor Ramon Valdez (D), and also served as Mayor of South Tucson. Romero (not related to Mayor Regina Romero) ran unsuccessfully for Ward 6 Council seat and District 5 Pima County Supervisor.

Also interested in running for a TUSD seat are political newcomer Lucas Verdugo and Pilar Ruiz. Ruiz previously ran for TUSD Board in Nov. 2024. She came in 4th in a 4 way race for 3 seats.
