It is Arizona legislators like Sen. Russell Pearce who are singularly focused on undocumented Mexicans. There are substantial communities of undocumented aliens in the U.S. from Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin and South America. Nearly one-half of all “illegal” aliens in the U.S. are individuals who entered the country legally but overstayed their visa. They are seldom prosecuted. Then there are the H1B1 visas issued to professionals who come to work in the U.S. under the sponsorship of U.S. employers. Many of them have lost their jobs in the recession and have overstayed their visa. When was the last time you heard Sen. Pearce mention any of this? Anyone? It is guys like Pearce who are singularly focused on Mexicans, not liberals. Mexican isn’t a race, it’s a nationality. So it’s not a race thing. It is, however, a nativist thing, as Terri below demonstrates.
No, every news report says the deputy was shot by “drug smugglers.” This is distinct from what you call “illegals,” i.e., undocumented aliens. Your intent is to demonize all undocumented aliens as criminals.
It is a civil misdemeanor for undocumented entry into the U.S. under federal law. It does not become “criminal” until after an initial civil prosecution and deportation, and a subsequent undocumented entry into the U.S.
SB 1070 makes it a felony crime for undocumented entry (presence) in Arizona. The law applies not just to foreign nationals, but to American citizens as well. If you are unfortunate enough not to have your proof of citizenship on your person when stopped and questioned by law enforcement, you can be arrested. Even after you subsequently provide proof of citizenship, you may still be prosecuted because the felony crime is not having proof of citizenship on your person at the time of arrest, not that you are not a U.S. citizen. There is no “safe haven” exception for U.S. citizens. S.B. 1070 can and will ensare U.S. citizens. The argument that SB 1070 mirrors federal law is total bullshit.
“Drug smugglers” are prosecuted under an entirely different section of the U.S. criminal code.
I am a citizen of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!!! I am not an Irish American, Indian American, German American, Scandanavian American, I AM AN AMERICAN!!! I want my country back! Too many rights given to illegals, criminals and politicians!! Let’s get back to the values on which this country was founded and grew to greatness. All this liberal crap is ruining our country and us!! This is a call to action if ever there was one. Let’s let Arizona know we are proud of their stand to reclaim OUR country! YEA, ARIZONA!!! WAY TO GO!!! I HOPE OTHER STATES FOLLOW AND MAYBE OBAMA WILL BE RIDDEN OUT ON A RAIL!!!
When we first look at the issue of Illegal immigrants let break it down by the words and what each means. Illegal is defined as forbidden by law or statute, and/or contrary to or forbidden by official rules, regulations, etc. Synonyms of the word are listed as unlawful; illegitimate; illicit; unlicensed. Illegal, unlawful, illegitimate, illicit, criminal can all describe actions not in accord with law. Illegal refers most specifically to violations of statutes. It’s just that simple. Now we come to the word immigrant, which means a person who migrates to another country, usually for permanent residence. That’s right permanent residence but one would need to apply and those that have come into the country illegally cannot and those that have come to the country legally can.
We as a country have it bad enough health care reform, the bank bailouts, poverty, strong separation between classes and low minimum wage. We have inflation problems, corruption and low education standards etc etc. I can go on and on. I guess my point is why can’t we have enough problems, whatever we can do as a society to better ourselves and the individuals clean our closets.
Personally I don’t see what’s wrong with law enforcement asking anyone no matter what nationality for proper identification, I mean remember 9/11 where did they come from. I don’t know if they were illegal immigrants but I do know that they were not from here. I mean could anyone from anywhere else just continue to come here and live free. Many illegal no matter what nationality sends their earnings back to their homeland. They don’t really contribute to the economy.
I had a law enforcement officer pull me over because he said that I fit the description (male white 25-30yrs old. 6’2” 185-215 lbs) of someone that just held-up a convenient store. After a few seconds his back-up arrived and they both searched me and found nothing and I was on my way. A slight inconvenience sure but 3 -5 minutes of my time and the police apprehending a violent criminal who was I to argue that. They apologized for the stop and went on looking for the offender(s). So I guess I say that to say if you’re properly documented like you should be there you may incur a 3-5 minute delay in your day, but if not you go back to where you belong.
I mean they had a woman in Chicago hiding in a church for months before immigration finally to her into custody. I don’t believe for one minute if that woman was Polish, Haitian, Russian, Nigerian, Canadian etc. would it have lasted that long. She would have been placed into custody and things would have been handled accordingly. Just like Mr. Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton going down there protesting for them. When have you ever heard of a Mexican politician or activist standing up for anyone besides themselves, helping another nationality and speaking up for them or their cause. They don’t do it and they won’t because it’s not about them. They don’t fight for anyone else or take a stand for anything unless they believe that it’s helpful to them. So I say Mr. Sharpton and Mr. Jackson tell the illegal immigrants to stand by you when you fighting for your 40 acres and a mule, reparations that your nationality never received, go back to fighting for your real cause and not something that’s illegal.
Gee the “May Day Demonstrations” the numbers were quite low if the reports were accurate!! Look at the polls! The majority of American Citizens support this bill and some hope their state considers something similar and several are. Clearly other states are overrun with illegals also and are fed up with the abuse of their tax dollars, the crime and blatant disrespect for our laws and country! Can you see another country react so softly to illegal immigrants walking around with their own country’s flag protesting the laws of the country they invaded? This is a country with laws just like every country, follow the laws or go to jail and be deported. It’s a shame the repercussions of the illegal’s actions are causing a problem with their children and families but what did they expect by breaking our laws, a fee pass? Why do some people feel they deserve a free pass, they are not above the law and citizens sure don’t get free pass when they have broken the laws!! And what about all the people who have gone thru the process the legal way, their efforts show they truly want to be here by respecting our laws and deserve to be here. The ones who ignore our laws should be thrown out for breaking our laws PERIOD! THE LAW IS THE LAW!! This law is not about race it’s about people breaking the law, bankrupting states and not respecting this country. It can not be compared to the MLK boycott they have nothing to do with each other. I’m sure as the law is implemented many other nationalities will also be caught here w/out proper paperwork and sent home. If the Federal government wasn’t wasting time figuring out how to control of its citizens, bailing out big money who failed in their greed and they were doing the job they should be doing we would not have this nation wide problem. If any boycott should be done it should be towards the Federal Government who refuses to create reform on immigration. Arizona is only trying to protect its citizens by legally enforcing the Federal laws in place which in fact are neglected by the Feds. If they were protecting our borders like they are suppose to be doing we wouldn’t have to wonder who’s coming across the border to harm us. If you feel you must protest AZ because the state government finally got fed up with the Feds ignoring the problem than so be it! If you’re so supportive of these illegals than invite them to your state, support them and bankrupt your own state, they already did ours. And how bout the millions of dollars the Feds owe AZ for doing their job? Ya want to help out on that too? Come on if you want to support them then stand up to the plate and support them, pay their past due bills!!! Get real people the majority of the people who are against this bill are illegals and their families who probably have either illegal parents or grand parents…Anchor Babies, friends of the illegals and special interest groups whom we all know the damage special interest groups can do when they get on a band wagon. Wasn’t it special interest groups that took God out of so much of this country; Way to go!! Don’t let loud misinformed groups influence your decision read up on how many pregnant women cross the border just to have their babies here on US soil and of course let the people of the state or the hospitals foot the bill!! Check out how many hospitals that have gone under due to the large debt from the illegals. Now the citizens have less medical help! Look at the big picture not just what you hear, do the research and than see if you feel it’s right as a individual citizen of the US to protest against our law & state!! PLEASE Get Educated on the situation before you make a decision on what’s truly right! Don’t just follow the bleeding hearts who know nothing about the situation in Arizona nor the true details of the law which DOES NOT ALLOW RACIAL PROFILING. Read the law don’t just assume what you hear is true. The past has proven too many times what the news reports is not the whole story!! Don’t follow the crowd off the cliff. there is such a sense of entitlement from culture today in America. Please remember all of the American citizens that live in border towns to Mexico that are speaking of many many illegals crossing the border into their towns that are from Europe, China, Africa and even the middle east! If Mexican citizens that are crossing illegally into the US were white then what would the liberal media have to say? They couldn’t then try to spin this into a race thing. It isn’t a race thing – get over yourselves!
It is about AZ completely mirroring the federal law that the feds are turning a blind eye to because the global corporate elite want cheap labor and many other alterior motives. There is a gov. website where they want to eliminate Canadian and Mexican borders and call us the N. American Trade – all in teh name of corporate greed; and that probably has something to do with it.
All I have to say is that the Mexican government is smart with their ILLEGAL immigration laws – and if we mirrored their laws in the US what would the ILLEGAL immigrants here have to say then??????? Ha!!!!
