A tip of the hat and the tastebuds to Adam Borowitz on The Range for his recommendation of Taco Fish, a cart on Grant just to the west of 6th Ave, south side of the street. It shares a dirt lot with a Caribbean food cart which I haven't tried. Look for the big ol' flag that proclaims, "FISH TACOS."
I'm not a food blogger, but I love me some good street food, and I'm delighted to see the Tucson cart culture coming of age. Last summer in Portland, I ate from an amazing selection of carts, and I've been waiting to find good stuff here (Sorry, no Sonoran hot dogs for me. I hear they're great, but I don't eat red meat.)
For $2.50 to $3.00 each, you get a soft corn tortilla with breaded and fried pieces of fish or whole shrimp — or you can get marlon (I've never had it before. Very tasty and tangy, and not fried) — on top. Then you take a few steps over to the condiment bar. There's a large container of delicious fresh cut salsa, another of tasty cole slaw, smaller containers of onions and so on, and two or three choices of hot sauce. Pile on what you want, grab a few napkins and enjoy. Hot, fresh and individualized by you. Eat there or take it to go.
There are other choices on the menu which I haven't tried . . . yet.
