The recent Bunco Fundraiser—sponsored jointly by the Northwest Maricopa County League of Women Voters, Stand Up Together, and the Unitarian Universalist Congregation Good Trouble—was an overwhelming success, raising over $1,000 to support local food banks.
These three community-driven organizations are dedicated to collecting and distributing food, volunteering wherever they are needed, and supporting families facing food insecurity. Their partnership made this event both meaningful and joyful.
During the event, Sheri Jahner spoke about the urgent and growing need within local food banks. She shared that donations are significantly down, while the number of people seeking help continues to climb. Because food banks can purchase supplies in bulk, every dollar raised stretches much further—often up to ten times more than individual food purchases.
Attendees enjoyed an evening filled with laughter, connection, and purpose. Many said it had been a long time since they’d laughed so hard—all while contributing to an important cause.
To locate food banks in your area and learn how you can help, simply search “food banks near me”—you may be surprised by how many exist and how many people they serve.
