I will try — I promise — to restrain myself from using the phrase "Jonathan Butchered another education story." It will be hard, but I will try.
Goldwater Institute's Matthew Ladner has moved on from being the Institute's education guy to working with Jeb Bush. Replacing Ladner is Jonathan Butcher. He's actually got a background in education, unlike Ladner, all in charters and school choice and the Heritage Foundation and as an occasional talking head on Fox. I notice his C.V. doesn't include any time in the classroom. So he'll be able to make statements that any teacher would be ashamed of making, because he doesn't know anything about managing a classroom and trying to educate young people.
His first piece, at least the first I've seen, is about greedy Maricopa Community Colleges, "Flush with cash and hungry for more." Really. I'm not kidding.
Some phrases from his screed: "The giant sucking sound you hear" "one of the nation’s largest—and arguably most bloated—community college districts" "the college district’s spending has exploded" "MCCCD’s bloat."
I'm sure Butcher had some help learning how to write G.I.-speak, but I think he'll fit in just fine.
Jonathan Butcher, meet David Safier, Blog for Arizona. Please feel free to add your comments whenever you wish. Your predecessor did, and now he's working for Jeb Bush. See how that works?
