I'm going to repeat advice I gave awhile ago, and add to it.
The repeat: Take Rodney Glassman seriously.
The addition: If you have a chance to hear Glassman speak, do it.
Glassman spoke today at the Democrats of Greater Tucson's weekly luncheon. He was impressive. He combined gravitas with intelligence and humor. He gave a strong stump speech and answered questions easily. He looked and sounded ready for prime time.
From what I hear, Glassman is attracting an impressive group of advisers to his campaign from all over the country, people with experience working on big campaigns. He's clearly planning to give the campaign everything he has. If there's any way a Democrat can take the seat away from McCain, Glassman has a good shot at doing it. And if Hayworth takes McCain out before Glassman has the chance, Glassman's chances are that much better.
Meanwhile, McCain, who once sponsored a reasonable immigration bill with Ted Kennedy, has thrown his support behind Russell Pearce's Let's-Get-Crazy-About-Immigration bill. And Chris Simcox, previously of the Minutemen, says McCain's support is nothing but “shameful election-year politics.”
Is McCain turning into Arizona's Rodney Dangerfield? Looks like he's getting no respect anywhere these days.
A McCAIN CAN'T MAKE UP HIS MIND UPDATE: McCain is for the Arizona anti-immigration bill, unless he's against it. From the Houston Chronicle:
U.S. Sen. John McCain on Monday called the bill a "tool that I think needs to be used." His office later said that wasn't an endorsement.
Thanks for clearing that up, John.

Rodney Glassman did himself – and the full house of Democrats who came out to hear him – proud at DGT today – and made all of us Democrats delighted that he will be our Senatorial candidate this year. Rodney has demonstrated accomplishments: A PhD, a JD, service in the JAG Reserve, a very productive term on the Tucson City Council and a very deep commitment to serving the people of Arizona. He also has the largest number of individual contributions – rather than a whole lot of money from a few people and corporations.
Go Rodney!!!!! I look forward to dancing at your victory party!
