Goldwater Institute to hire investigative reporter

by David Safier
Wow. That will be some gig for a lucky conservative reporter: an investigative reporter for G.I. No firm deadlines, no regular column inches to fill. Just go out there and dig up whatever kind of dirt you can, especially when it comes to government spending, and write articles to be posted on the website, then quoted in the local dailies, which are always hungry for ready-made stories to fill space.

G.I. — what a treasure for Arizona's conservative/libertarian types, politicians and non-elected pols alike. Seventeen employees, including lawyers, economists, researchers (hi, Matthew), publicists. And money to go out and hire an investigative reporter because they think it's a swell idea. And it's all nonpartisan. I know it is, because President and CEO Darcy Olsen says so.

Can I have a liberal Goldwater Institute for my birthday?

(BTW, if that investigative reporter is looking for something to investigate, s/he could look into how it is some of these STOs that manage the tax credits for private schools seem to always have expenses that total around 10% of the money they bring in, which is the maximum they're allowed to take. Unless, of course, G.I. doesn't consider that government money, since the tax credits are waylayed before they make it into the state coffers.)
