Gun violence prevention groups join in call for stronger gun laws after Al Qaeda video

by David Safier

The video by Adam Gadahn urging American-based terrorists to take advantage of the gun show loophole has led five national gun violence prevention organizations to sent a joint letter to the President Obama. Fourteen state and regional groups signed the letter as well.

Here's the money quote from the letter:

[W]e call on you in the strongest terms to order an immediate and thorough review of steps the Administration can take in the short term to reduce the firepower available on the civilian gun market, to tighten existing laws regulating the gun industry, and to improve the background check system to make it harder for those with terrorist ties to obtain firearms.

We also urge you to call on Congress to convene extensive, serious hearings to explore and identify the legislative steps that ultimately must be taken if a small arms terrorist attack is to be prevented.
