Banned Books Week is here: September 24-October 1, celebrating noting the ignoble tradition of banning books, and, as the American Library Association puts it, "Celebrating the Freedom to Read." (Ever notice, no matter how quiet and mild mannered a librarian may be, how heated s/he gets when it comes to the topic of banned books? In an instant, librarians are ready to rush to the front lines in the battle for the Freedom to Read.)
The Great Gatsby. The Catcher in the Rye. The Grapes of Wrath. To Kill a Mockingbird. The Color Purple. The top five banned or challenged books.
You can participate by choosing your favorite banned or challenged book, making a video of you reading a 2 minute segment and posting it on the Banned Books Week youtube channel. Here are the details if you're interested.
