A three-judge panel from the Arizona Court of Appeals has temporarily blocked the reactivation of a Civil War Era abortion ban after a Pima County Court Judge ruled it could proceed two weeks ago.
In reporting from Politico, the court agreed with Planned Parenthood that the Pima Court Judge should not have lifted the ban, especially in light of the recently passed abortion ban after 15 weeks passed by the legislature earlier this year stating:
“Arizona courts have a responsibility to attempt to harmonize all of this state’s relevant statutes.”
Democratic Gubernatorial and Attorney General Nominees Katie Hobbs and Kris Mayes, who have both held joint press conferences in Phoenix and Tucson condemning the pre-statehood law and the Trump Republican Arizona nominees that support them (Kari Lake and Abe Hamadeh) each issued statements on social media.
Secretary of State Hobbs posted:

Former Corporation Commissioner Kris Mayes issued a video post from Pima County Democratic Headquarters on social media, saying: “Obviously, we have a long way to go to protect reproductive freedom in Arizona, to restore the right to choose and abortion care rights in Arizona and as your next Attorney General, I will fight like hell for the women of this state. But good news for today. Let’s keep charging forward.”
This temporary stay is good news on a Friday afternoon, BUT, there’s still so much work to do to secure our reproductive freedom. All hands on deck. #LawyerForThePeople https://t.co/ULRdXcYBWP pic.twitter.com/Uy9Apd4JOc

Kris Mayes is right. It is a good day for women’s right to choose. But the fight to keep those rights will have to go on.
Part of that struggle is making sure that the candidates that represent the rights of women are elected on November 8, 2022.
Lake and Hamadeh have definitely proven they are not in that group.
Hobbs and Mayes have.
