Hobbs, Mayes, and Fontes Condemn the Department of Injustice Seizing Arizona 2020 Voting Records

We have seen this movie before.

And the ending to the production always stays the same.

Joe Biden beat Donald Trump in 2020.

He defeated him across several swing stqtes including Arizona and Georgia.

Of course, Mr. Trump, who committed treason by orchestrating the January 6, 2021, Domestic Terrorist attack on the United States Capitol, after getting his butt handed to him at all judicial levels following the election, is publicly still ignoring that reality.

First, his Injustice Department, through the F.B.I., seized the voting records in Fulton County, Georgia, where the turnout there helped provide the margin for the Biden victory in that state.

Today, they seized the voting records in Maricopa County, Arizona, where turnout there helped turn the Grand Canyon state blue for the Biden/Harris ticket.

This is five years after the State Legislature wasted taxpayer dollars funding an audit by a fanatic election denying and now disgraced firm, Cyber Ninjas, that resulted in showing Joe Biden won Arizona by more votes than originally broadcast.

Arizona’s three state leaders are not amused with this latest public grasp with fringe unreality by Trump and his MAGA voting suppression Fascist MAGA band.

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs, who was Secretary of State during the 2020 election and signed, along with Republican Governor Doug Ducey, the election certification results, issued a press release that read:

“Arizonans are tired of election conspiracies and lies that undermine our democracy. Arizona’s elections are free, fair, and secure, which numerous lawsuits and even the Arizona Senate’s ‘audit’ into the 2020 election results have confirmed. The FBI’s reckless actions are an attack on Arizonans and undermine our rights as voters. I protected our democracy as Secretary of State, and I will always stand up against election deniers and fight to protect the integrity of Arizona’s elections.”

Arizona’s Current Secretary of State Adrian Fontes also issued a press release, offering:

“Recent efforts to relitigate the 2020 election are founded on conspiracy theories and raise serious concerns. First, the lack of transparency and clear chain of custody in these efforts calls into question the reliability of any potential findings. Second, continuing to relitigate past elections distracts from the urgent work needed to prepare for and secure upcoming elections, including those in 2026. Finally, prolonged disputes and conflicting claims risk creating unnecessary chaos and undermining public confidence in our election system.

Voters deserve elections that are orderly, accessible, and trustworthy. By concentrating on practical improvements—rather than revisiting past grievances—we can help prevent confusion, reduce long lines at polling places on Election Day, and ensure our elections continue to serve every voter effectively. At this time, my office is working to identify legal options to secure personal voter information in the 2020 data that was shared. We view this latest action as a move by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to undermine the legal process.

Our focus should be on strengthening the systems that voters rely on today and protecting sensitive voter data. That means strengthening the administration of mail voting, ensuring clear and transparent procedures, and investing in election infrastructure so that voters can cast their ballots efficiently and securely.”

Secretary Fontes also posted on social media, saying “We’re done with 2020,” and chastising the Republican Senate President for turning over some of the 2020 records.

Fontes called for moving forward, not backward, in protecting everyone’s right to vote by mail, the IT system that runs our voting systems, and all of Arizona’s counties’ ability to oversee elections.

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes also issued a statement, conveying:

“The 2020 General Election in Arizona has been exhaustively reviewed. Multiple audits, court proceedings, and independent investigations — including those pursued by members of the same political party of the President — found no evidence of fraud sufficient to alter the outcome. These findings are not in dispute by any credible authority. The election results were certified, litigated, and affirmed.

In fact, under the direction of my predecessor, Attorney General Mark Brnovich, agents and support staff of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office spent over 10,000 hours investigating voting irregularities and alleged instances of illegal voting by high-profile election deniers. Complaints and allegations submitted to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office by members of the public were also unsupported by factual evidence.

Warren Petersen knows all of this. He has known it for years. He spread false stories of election fraud in 2020and he remains an unrepentant election denier, using his platform as Senate President to legitimize conspiracy theories that Arizona’s own courts and law enforcement have thoroughly debunked.

What the Trump administration appears to be pursuing now is not a legitimate law enforcement inquiry. It is the weaponization of federal law enforcement in service of crackpots and lies.”

Arizona Democratic House Leader Oscar De Los Santos wrote on social media:

“Instead of working to bring down housing costs or expanding healthcare, far-right politicians are wasting time on re-litigating the 2020 election. Enough with the chaos and conspiracies. It’s time to focus on lowering costs.”

Representative Greg Stanton wrote:

Our Constitution gives the power of administering elections to the states so no president can intimidate or manipulate them.

This subpoena isn’t just an effort to continue his lies about the 2020 election, it’s a stepping stone toward federal interference into elections across the country.”

Arizona has endured years of baseless attacks on our election system. Every legal challenge confirmed the outcome of the 2020 election — the facts are not in dispute.

Sadly, Trump is continuing to waste taxpayer dollars advancing The Big Lie.”
