If You Want a Sneak Preview of what Trump II would be Like, Look at What Netanyahu is Trying to Do in Israel

From the Los Angeles Times.

It is important to remember, despite what MAGA Republicans claim, that one is not Anti Semitic or Anti Israel if they do not support the policies of Benjamin Netanyahu.

One can be Pro-Israel while also being Anti-Benjamin Netanyahu and the extremist nationalist policies he has employed over the last two decades against the Palestinians in the West Bank and also in opposition to the Pro-Democratic and Inclusive forces in the only, for the moment, Democracy in the Middle East.

The legally compromised (like Trump) Netanyahu and his ultra-nationalist-orthodox right-wing lunatic cronies in his cabinet and the Knesset (Israeli Parliament) are currently attempting to ram through, despite the threat of strikes by Israeli workers and military reservists and massive protests across the country, a reform measure designed to strip the country’s high court of the power to declare laws and political appointments (like those of cabinet officials that are known homophobes, theocrats and racists) “unreasonable.”

The move, decried by the Biden Administration (the President called this Israeli cabinet the most extreme he has ever seen,) was designed by Netanyahu and his radical zealots to retain their positions, shield them from further legal accountability, and give them carte blanch to annex the West Bank and displace the Palestinians living there in favor of ultra-orthodox settlers who despise their more secular brethren among the Israeli populace and preach that the land was promised to them by God.

What should be telling to readers in this country is that you can very easily substitute Trump for Netanyahu, the United States for Israel, White Christian Nationalists for Ultra-Orthodox, Justice Department and Courts for the Israeli Supreme Court, and Minorities for Palestinians to see what a second Trump Administration would be like.

Like any informed people in the world of reality need any further reminding of what a second Trump Administration would mean.

It is important to support the Democratic forces in Israel in their fight against the reactionary, expansive, and self-interested plans of Netanyahu and his radical supporters.

It is also vital to take what is happening in the only Democracy, for now, in the Middle East, and do everything possible to make sure it does not happen again here in this country with the candidacy of Donald Trump.

Stay engaged and turnout in 2024.
