In New Ad Remembering 1/6/21, Secretary of State Candidate Adrian Fontes Pledges to Protect Democracy

Speaking “from the scene of the crime,”  Arizona Secretary of State Democratic Candidate Adrian Fontes released a video remembering the horrible events at the Nation’s Capitol on 1/6/21 and pledging to protect Democracy by not letting any attempts to undo legitimate election results occur “on his watch.”

Fontes, repeating the famous Franklin Delano Roosevelt phrase, said that 1/6/21 is a day that “would live in infamy,” equating the domestic terrorist attack on the Nation’s Capitol with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and the Al-Qaeda attack on the United States on 9/11.

He went on to say:

“At this place, one year ago today, violent insurrectionists incited by Donald Trump stormed the capitol of the United States of America.”

“They were attempting to block the peaceful transfer of power for the first time in the history of our republic. Some gave all to defeat them. One of those in the mob that day is a far-right extremist politician (Mark Finches) endorsed by Donald Trump who is now the leading Republican running for Arizona Secretary of State. His platform? Decertify the twenty-twenty election and rig future votes so they can steal 2022 and 2024.”

Fontes then pledged “not on my watch” if elected to become the next Arizona Secretary of State.

Recalling his marine background, the former Maricopa County Recorder relayed that he swore to “defend the country against all enemies foreign and domestic” and, with his experience defending the 2020 Maricopa County election results from multi million dollar fringe efforts in court, audits, and false propaganda in the alt right zone, Fontes said, “that’s exactly what I did.”

Turning to the future, Fontes said “he would fight any extremist that threatens our Democracy,” stressing:

“We need to focus on the next election because extremists across America are already plotting their next insurrection […] Whenever America has faced days of infamy, real patriots answer the call to defend our nation. As we mark this solemn anniversary of January sixth, our resolve can be expressed with two simple words: Protect democracy.”
