1 thought on ““Iraq in 3/3 Time With a Coda” play at LTW”

  1. Four very powerfully acted short plays by clever playwright Gavin Kayner. The first “Audition” is about a soldier auditioning for a theater play, only to discover that the interviewer is the brother of a sister Captain the soldier knew in Iraq. This sister was abused by whom? and justice for her is sought. The 2nd play “Guess You Know Why I’m Here “ portrays the PTSD suffered by a medic after a horrible, chaotic IED incident in Iraq where a beloved Sarge dies. “Sniper” is about a tortured, robot-like, well trained sniper who unfortunately shoots & kills his own brother, an American turned traitor/Muslim terrorist. He says that although “taking life is editing God’s handiwork” he has to due to the “confluence of circumstances” presented him as a trained sniper.

And finally the last play “Trust the Sky” shows the pain of a young woman, collateral damage from the death of her father from one of the twin towers of 9/11. She laments that she can “never trust the sky again” because God did not save her father after he allegedly jumped to his death. All four plays consider the benefits (if any) of war and the war on terrorism, and confronts the personal demons inside after living through these wars, and whether there is justice overall because of all the pain suffered. Two more showings this weekend.
