Irony alert: ELL funding

by David Safier
This from Education Week:

At least four large urban school districts plan to spend a significant amount of their federal economic-stimulus money to support or improve programs for English-language learners, a fast-growing group in U.S. schools. The districts—Boston, New York City, St. Paul, Minn., and Seattle—have had varying degrees of success serving such students.

While school districts in other states are using stim money to help transform ELL students into fluent English speakers with an improved chance of getting a quality education, Arizona has taken its 20 year old fight against spending more money on ELL students to the U.S. Supreme Court.

It would be funny if it weren't so damn sad.
