AZ Blue Meanie already posted about the RNC PowerPoint presentation revealing the GOP Fear Factor strategy to win elections by appealing to people's basest instincts.
It bears repeating.
The RNC's disrespect for its donor base, both small and large donors, is stunning. Here are portions of page 29 from the original PowerPoint.
The image on the left describes how to solicit money via direct marketing, labeled "Visceral Giving." Very simply, appeal to 1. Fear; 2. Extreme negative feelings toward existing Administration [I can't make sense out of "Issue/circumstantially oriented." I assume that was explained in the presentation]; 3. Reactionary.
So, go for the reactionary gut in mailers. Completely skip over anything resembling a thought process.
The image on the right is how to target major donors, labeled "Calculated Giving." Think of them as rich, insecure babies, and use 1. Peer to Peer Pressure; 2. Networking Opportunities; 3. Access; 4. Wall of Fame; 5. Ego-Driven; 6. Personal.
What's missing from both appeals? Any reasons to vote for Republicans. For direct mail, tell people to hate and fear Democrats. For major donors, make them feel special, and probably make them think they'll get richer.
It's wonderful to see this kind of cynicism on full display instead of hidden between the lines.
