It’s All About Ego for Arizona’s Senator Fancypants

Fashionista Senator Kyrsten Sinema, looking pudgy in a purple dress and a white wig, was rightfully censured by Arizona Democrats. The party cited “her failure to do whatever it takes to ensure the health of our democracy.” Sinema refused to go along with fellow Democrats to alter the Senate filibuster rule so they could overcome Republican opposition to the bill.

While the rebuke is symbolic, it is striking that Sinema was heralded for bringing the Senate seat back into the Democratic fold for the first time in a generation only three years ago. Even Gov. Ducey weighed in by saying, “I’m glad that she’s trying to bring people together, while also giving her credit for standing up and protecting a Senate rule that she believes in.”

Robert Reich, former Secretary of Labor, said Sinema and Manchin “are notorious. They are celebrities from Washington. Their photos adorn all major US media.”

The Governor seems to have forgotten that the good Senator Fancy Pants was one of Ducey’s fiercest critics in 2020 when she relentlessly lambasted his negligent response to the pandemic.

The spotlight corrupts

Even Robert Reich, economist and former Secretary of Labor under President Clinton, wrote an article titled Where Egos Dare: “Manchin and Sinema show how Senate spotlight corrupts.” He questioned why they created a false narrative that the legislation had to be “bipartisan” when everyone knew bipartisanship was impossible.

Reich also wonders why they said they couldn’t support changing Senate filibuster rules when only last month they voted for an exception to the filibuster that allowed debt ceiling legislation to pass with only Democratic votes? Reich claims the answer can be found in the giant wads of corporate cash flowing into their campaign coffers.

But Reich points to the biggest factor affecting almost all national politicians – egos — and Sinema and Manchin now are the most egotistical. Ever since Sinema became a Senator, she relished all the attention she got when she gave her theatrical thumbs down to increasing the minimum wage. Since then, she has been thrilled about her national celebrity as a spoiler.

People forget that Sinema is smart enough to understand that she will continue to be in the spotlight if the Senate stays at 50-50. If two additional Democratic Senators are elected, both Sinema and Manchin will be two of only 52, or if they choose to vote with the Republicans, the Vice President will vote to break the tie.

The adage “make hay while the sun shines” is something Sinema probably knows well. Sinema also knows well that her fund-raising ability will dry up once she’s in the minority. So let’s just see how the Fashionista will vote when she’s in the minority. Will it be a thumbs-up or will she continue to give Arizona voters the middle finger?

  1. And in today’s Daily Star, a list of all this things they’re going to impose on our elections:

-Special ballots, with anti-couterfeiting measures, the Rep responsible says ‘So what if they cost a nickel apiece?’
    -Eliminating no-excuse vote-by-mail
-Making images of ALL ballots available to the public so We CaN Do oUr OwnReSeArCh!
-Requiring fingerprints for voter ID, and a special voter ID card, and banning the use of Tribal ID’s as valid ID.
-Raising the threshold of automatic recounts
-All ballots must be counted by hand
-Mail-in ballots must be postmarked 6 days before election day
    -Greatly limiting early voting

Thanks Senator, for upholding ThE DigNiTy oF tHe SeNaTe over actual representative democracy.

  2. Sen. Sinema set herself up any criticisms about things that she says, does or wears. When she sashayed onto the Senate floor giving a tap on the back of Mitch McConnell and then proceeded to grandstand her famous thumb down in the Senate well. It’s unfortunate that this really is the only thing Sen Sinema is best known for since she was elected beside being Senator NO. I say this even though I voted for her.

  3. What a turn off that the author, while perhaps having a valid point, resorts to offering his opinions on the senator’s appearance and what she is wearing. Your opinions on politics and political figures are made weak by such reliance on name calling and what is clearly an attempt to invalidate a political figure based on things completely unrelated to politics. Do better and write something based on a useful observation or opinion.

    • Melissa, quite frankly I think that constituents have a right to expect their representatives to show respect for the office to which they have been elected. Any Senator who chooses to show up for work dressed like a circus clown is fair game.

Anyhow, that is not why Sinema is being “invalidated.” It’s not her clothes, it’s the fact that she sold her vote, she’s a traitor to the Democratic party and the people who voted for her. She’s willing to tank the Republic for her own amusement and financial gain.

I can’t imagine why anyone would defend Sinema, she does not deserve it.

  4. Sinema’s 15 minutes of fame are over in 2022 if…
    1. The GOP takes back the House. Biden’s agenda is done, no progressive bills will be legislated.
    2. The Democrats get 52+ Senators.
    3. The GOP gets 51+ Senators.

If any one of the above occurs, Kyrsten Sinema can go back to leading bipartisan spin classes or shopping for the Halloween costumes she wears to work. She will quickly find out that no one cares what she thinks about anything.

She’s not cute, quirky, bisexual Kyrsten from the Gas Station anymore. She’s a traitor, nothing more, and she did it for money.

But I am amused that you refer to her as a “fashionista.” Someone on Twitter said that she probably would accept bribes in Kohl’s cash. Sinema’s stuff actually looks more like the “fast fashion” that is piling up in a Chilean desert in South America.
