April 4 to May 2, 2022
“The Stand Against Racism Challenge is designed to create dedicated time and space to build more effective social justice habits, particularly those dealing with issues of race, power, privilege, and leadership.
Each day of the challenge you will be presented with activities such as reading an article, listening to a podcast, reflecting on personal experience and more. Participation in activities like these helps us to discover how racial injustice and social injustice impact our community, to connect with one another, and to identify ways to dismantle racism and other forms of discrimination.
This is an exciting opportunity to dive deep into racial equity and social justice.
We hope that you will go into this challenge with an open heart and an open mind, ready to push beyond your comfort zone. We know engaging in learning and discussions about racism can be difficult and can bring up powerful emotions, but our commitment to increasing our awareness and our capacity for action is what will help move our community forward.
To engage with other people doing the challenge, use the hashtag #YWCASARChallenge to share your reflections on social media. You can also join our Facebook group where participants can continue the conversation in a safe space.
YWCA Metro Phoenix and Southern Arizona want to thank and acknowledge Dr. Eddie Moore Jr., Debby Irving, and Dr. Marguerite Penick for their leadership in the field of racial equity as exhibited in their 21 Day Racial Equity and Habit-Building Challenge and the movement they helped to initiate. YWCA’s content is independently designed, written, and curated by YWCA staff as part of racial equity and social justice programs offered to the community.”
Carolyn’s note: This challenge is needed in April 2022. I was on a zoom meeting on Monday for Women at Work, and the 3 Tucson presenters were Hispanic and Black women, and none of them could say they had “overcome racial discrimination” directed against them at the workplace. Sigh. America needs to improve. Please take this challenge and help others too.
