Saying “As a young Latina, my parents taught me the value of serving others. From the time I started at first grade at Liberty Elementary to when I graduated from Sunnyside High School, I knew that serving others was important…,” Ms. Hernandez will, if elected work with her House colleagues to better fund Arizona’s public schools, assist small businesses, protect voting rights, and invest in renewable energy sources.

Ms. Hernandez graciously took the time to answer questions about her candidacy for a seat in the Arizona State House.

The questions and her responses are below.

  • What are at least two reasons you want to run for a term for the Arizona State House?

“Arizona is at a crossroads and we need more than just a two issue focus. Indeed, as we start to emerge from the pandemic, we need leaders focused on our economy being rebuilt first and foremost. We need Arizonans getting back to work and back on track. However, I am working to ensure our schools are both well-funded and safe to help our kids get back into the classroom. And, as LD-21 State Representative, I will protect and preserve our right to vote against those who would undermine our electoral process just to stay in power.”

  • What are at least two reasons voters should elect you over any opponent in the House race?

“As someone who has dedicated my life to public service, my only job is serving my constituents. Unlike those who serve a political machine or special interests, I will go to work every day on the “streetlight and pothole” issues that matter most to them – whether that’s getting folks back to work, funding our schools or making certain we are safe and healthy to end this pandemic.”

  • If elected to the House, what are at least four issues you will focus on in that chamber? There may be follow-ups to this question, depending on the original response.

  • “  Rebuild our economy and put Arizonans back to work.
  • Improve education funding, increase teacher pay and keep our schools safe
  • Protect the voting rights of every Arizonan at all costs.
  • Strengthen our healthcare system, ensure Arizonans are vaccinated and provide every resource possible to end COVID.”
  • Is there anything not covered in the first three questions that you would like the readers to know about you and your candidacy? Please explain.

“Growing up in the Hernandez household, we were taught early that the greatest legacy anyone has is what they did to serve others and their community. We knew that it was a real responsibility that we carried throughout our lives. As President and Board Member of the Sunnyside Unified School District, I have always made it my mission to do exactly that.  From Day one, I have been empowering our students, teachers and administrators to work hard, reach for their best and work towards excellence.  As State Representative, I will bring that same spirit and dedication to serving the people of LD-21.”
