Forget about the New York Times. USA Today, that left wing rag (they try to push their biased news on me every time I stay at a Days Inn by giving me free copies in the breakfast room!), has an article out today saying people are safer from violent crime on the U.S. side of the border with Mexico than they are in the rest of their states..
The analysis found that rates of violent crime along the U.S.-Mexico border have been falling for years — even before the U.S. security buildup that has included thousands of law enforcement officers and expansion of a massive fence along the border.
U.S. border cities were statistically safer on average than other cities in their states. Those border cities, big and small, have maintained lower crime rates than the national average, which itself has been falling.
I know the article is wrong. It has to be. Jan Brewer and Russell Pearce have told me how dangerous it is down there, over and over and over.
[Satire alert: I know it's obvious, but just to be certain: calling USA Today a left wing rag is satire. That being said, I have to say, its reporters have some chops, and once in awhile, they do some excellent reporting. This article is an example, as was their excellent investigation of cheating on standardized tests.]
