Mayes and Fontes Disparage Trump Wanting Republicans to Disobey the Constitution by Federalizing and Controlling Elections

Earlier in the week, Donald Trump raised another stink in his ever-ending pursuit, fueled by lying disinformation and public denialism, to create election infrastructure in his MAGA image by suggesting, on the recently departed F.B.I. Deputy Director Dan Bongino’s podcast, that Republicans should nationalize and control elections in 15 areas.

Trump repeated his suggestions, backed by his serial lying, to reporters in the Oval Office on February 3.

This latest tirade comes after Mr. Trump apparently directed his National Intelligence Director, Tulsi Gabbard, and a group of F.B.I. agents to raid the Fulton County Recorder’s offices and take documents, including ballots, related to the 2020 election, which the American Duce wannabe lost.

Someone knows his party, thanks to his destructive policies, is probably going to go down in electoral flames in the 2026 elections.

Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes and Secretary of State Adrian Fontes reacted to this latest power grab attempt by Mr. Trump on the franchise.

Mayes just needed two words to express her opinion of the Mad King wanting to nationalize elections.

“Blatantly Unconstitutional.”

Secretary Fontes had more fun with his response, saying in an Instagram video with a whiteboard and a copy of the Constitution:

I don’t know how many times we have to ask folks to read the Constitution. It comes in little books like this…This is a state function. Clearly not within the purview of the Chief Executive…Congress does have a role. Here is the hook they have with the Help America Vote Act. They have with the National Voter Registration Act. They have with the Civil Rights Act…This is how the normal process works. The states are in charge of elections. It’s a very simple thing. And no, nobody won any elections in 2020 except the ones we certified at the states. And that’s all over. What needs to happen is we need to have a sober, intelligent conversation now. At the end of the day, this is what the Constitution says, and if you want to change it, there’s another article that talks about amendments. But for now, I will remain the Chief Election Officer for the great and sovereign state of Arizona. And we, here in the Grand Canyon state, will run our own elections…
