The Mayors of Phoenix and Tucson each championed historical events last week.
Mayor Kate Gallego, in a series of posts and events, celebrated the Thirty First Anniversary of Ukrainian Independence.
Tomorrow the city will shine bright in Blue and Yellow, recognizing 31 years of Ukraine Independence. Join us in showing solidarity and support to Ukrainians who also call Phoenix home. pic.twitter.com/I1hnH6LiQ0

Earlier in the year, the Phoenix Mayor honored the Ukrainians fighting to keep their country after being invaded by Putin’s Russia in the Russo-Ukraine War by turning on the lights in the color of the Ukrainian Flag at Phoenix City Hall.
Tucson Mayor Romero honored the 102nd anniversary of the passage of the Nineteenth Amendment on Women’s Equality Day, posting:
Today is #WomensEqualityDay. 102 years ago, the #19th Amendment gave some, but not all women, the right to vote. Today we’re still fighting for equal access to the ballot box, for our right to bodily autonomy, for our right to equal pay. We can never stop fighting.
