Yesterday I posted about a story in the Phoenix New Times reporting that Al Melvin is behind a measure to create a state funded militia posse vigilante volunteer security force on the border.
Today, Tim Steller covered the story in the Star.
Steller did some excellent reporting in his article. The whole thing is worth a read. But here's the money quote for me, where Melvin shows he's still the proud Minuteman he always was:
"There are many of us, including me, who would like to see the concept of the Minutemen come back. I think there's a way to make it work," Melvin said Friday in explaining the effort to establish a volunteer force.
You can take the boy Melvin out of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, as it self destructs under the weight of its own idiocy, but you can't take the Minuteman out of Melvin. Still proud. Still vigilant. Still vigilante.
Here's an interesting thing, though. Melvin is all for the private sector and against big government. Yet, when this private sector enterprise fails, he wants the government to fund it. What is he, a socialist or something?
NOTE: I photoshopped the illustration above, crossing out "Minutemen" and adding "Volunteer Security Force." Otherwise, it's a genuine photo, one of a series Melvin ran on his website during his failed 2006 campaign. He's since taken them down.
