Message to Pearce: Al Melvin is having fun

by David Safier

On_their_knees It seems Russell Pearce is feeling a little heavy hearted about the cuts in the budget.

“It's not easy and it's not fun for anybody, but you have no choice, you've got to do it,” said Sen. Russell Pearce, R-District 18, about the plan to solve the state’s $2.6 million budget deficit.

Al Melvin is having no such qualms. As I posted yesterday,

A source at the Capitol [Thursday] saw the Al Melvin Principle in action. It seems Cap'n Al told a reporter from the Arizona Capitol Times that he can't wait to vote YES on this budget.

We're talking jumping-up-and-down-with-anticipation-and-excitement glee, like a kid at Disneyland waiting in line for the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

Which is right in keeping with the Al Melvin Principle, which he first stated over a year ago:

"When everyone is on their knees, so to speak, from the adverse economic situation, you can get more accomplished in a fundamental way than you can if you're flush with revenue and cash."

Cutman_hatchet_melvin An old BfA series, The Adventures of Cutman and Melvin, is due to be brought back to life, I think.

"Holy Hatchets, Cutman! Looks like we finally did it! We cut that evil budget down to size!"

"Now, now, Melvin. We mustn't gloat. We must remember, fighting the battle against public education and social services isn't easy, and it isn't fun. Actually, you and I know how much fun it is, but we must maintain our steely, serious composure, or people will think we're monsters, not budget fighters."

"Gosh, Cutman, I still have so much to learn!"
