Michael Steele un-Hearts SB1070?

by David Safier

RNC Chair Michael Steele didn't exactly say he doesn't like SB1070, but he sure put the law at a few arms' lengths.

He made his statement on the Spanish-language Univision network, so there's a little ethnic pandering going on, but still . . .

Steele said basically, Hey, SB1070 is only about this one governor of this little one horse state. It's not the RNC.

Or close to that anyway.

In an interview with Spanish-language network Univision, RNC Chairman Michael Steele distanced his party from Arizona's controversial new immigration law, saying, "The actions of one state's governor is not a reflection of an entire country, nor is it a reflection of an entire political party."

"We hope, now that this debate is in full bloom, level heads will prevail and that we'll reach a common sense solution with regards to immigration," Steele said.

My favorite line: "level heads will prevail." Think he's talking about Russell Pearce? Or Al Melvin? Or Frank Antenori? Or Jan "Beheadings in the desert" Brewer? Or pretty much any Republican in this state? I'm not sure you can find a level head in the bunch.
