Obama picking up “American Dream” theme

It looks like "The American Dream" is going to be part of Obama's campaign.

"I don't mind – I'm used to being an underdog," the president said in an interview with ABC News. "And I think that at the end of the day, though, what people are going to say is, who's got a vision for the future that can actually help ordinary families recapture that American dream." [boldface added]

Families recapturing the American Dream. Good stuff. Obama is creating a verbal alliance with progressives who have been using the term for awhile, like Van Jones' "American Dream" ("Rebuild the Dream") group. If Democrats can create a choice between recapturing that very American ideal that people can realize their dreams for themselves and their families and the Republican scheme to make the rich richer and corporations more powerful and less regulated, the party may have a slogan that crystalizes the contrast between Ds and Rs — on our terms.
