Obama’s campaign hits the right notes

by David Safier

Looks like Obama's campaign plans to play a little hard ball. A new strategy memo lays out the message in the first paragraphs, then documents why it will be effective.

From economics to immigration, Governor Perry, Governor Romney and the Republican field have embraced policies that the American people oppose. The campaign to win the Republican nomination has become a campaign to win the hearts and minds of the Tea Party. They would return to policies that have been tried before and done nothing to improve economic security for the middle class, rewarding special interests who can afford to pay for lobbyists instead of looking out for working families.

While the President is fighting to create jobs and put money in the pockets of middle class Americans, the Republican candidates have proposed extending tax breaks for large corporations and tax cuts for the wealthiest while allowing special interests to write their own rules.

Putting the GOP presidential candidates in the Tea Party camp. Accusing them of rewarding special interests, giving large corporations and the rich tax breaks and tax cuts, letting special interests "write their own rules" — code, I suppose, for gutting regulations. All that is music to my ears.

Will it fly with voters? You can read further in the memo if you want to see the trends saying Americans will respond to the Dems drawing a clear distinction between themselves and the Republicans.

It's good to hear some of the clear, tough language many of us have been asking for coming out of the mouths of Obama and his people. I'll let others argue about whether it should have happened earlier. I'm just happy to hear it happening now.
