On the Fifty-First Anniversary of the historic Roe v Wade Supreme Court decision that gave women the right to reproductive freedom and have the final say over their health, Arizona Democratic Leaders spoke out on the need to formalize at the ballot this November the need to protect the right to choose in the Grand Canyon State.

Governor Katie Hobbs issued a press release that read:
“Fifty-one years ago, millions of Arizonans celebrated as the Supreme Court made the monumental and just decision to protect women’s reproductive freedom. While we honor that day, we must also recognize that these fundamental rights have since been stripped away by politicians who think they belong in these deeply personal decisions that should be between a woman and her doctor.
“Fighting for Arizona families means defending every individual’s right to make their own reproductive healthcare decisions. In Arizona, there is still a dangerous total abortion ban from 1864 on the books. We must repeal this archaic law and protect our reproductive freedoms by making access to contraception a right and stop government overreach from invading women’s privacy. Reproductive freedom is not a partisan issue, and I will not let extremists take Arizona backward. That is a promise.”

At an event hosted by the Arizona Democratic Party, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego stated:
“Make no mistake, if Donald Trump returns to the White House, he will stop at nothing to ban abortion nationwide. But there’s good news. President Biden and Vice President Harris are working so hard to protect our rights. With President Biden and Vice President Harris, a national abortion ban will not happen. It has no chance of becoming law. “

Arizona Senate Democratic Leader Mitzi Epstein offered:
“I work with Republican legislators in Arizona who are following the Trump playbook, charging around like a bull in a china shop. They’re working to ban abortions, jail doctors, and punish women. We’ve got to stop them. Trump has said there should be punishment for women who get abortions. These are attacks on our rights. To stop these attacks on our rights, we’ve got to get to a Democratic majority in the Arizona legislature.”

Arizona House Democratic Leader Lupe Contreras relayed:
“Arizona’s with us. The vast majority of Arizonans cherish their freedom and their autonomy over their bodies. And we, let me tell you, Arizona is outraged. We are outraged at what Donald Trump and the picks to the Supreme Court have done.”
