LD 10 State Senator Kirsten Engel recently resigned her seat to run for CD 2 House. She had been elected to that seat in Nov. 2020, after serving 2 terms in the State House.
The LD 10 Democrats precinct committeepersons met online on Sept. 26, and nominated 3 persons to be considered for appointment by the Pima County Board of Supervisors: sitting LD 10 Rep. Stephanie Hamilton, former AZ House Rep. (in Phoenix) Tom Chabin, and LD 10 activist/Marine Larry Waggoner.
The Board discussed this item on their Addendum agenda on October 5, but Supervisor Rex Scott asked for a continuance to meet with all nominees. No motion passed (to continue or to vote for nominee Rep. Stephanie Hamilton) so the item was de facto postponed to Oct. 19.
Today the Board met and appointed Rep. Stephanie Hamilton to the seat. The nomination was made to appoint LD 10 Rep. Stahl Hamilton by Supervisor Rex Scott, 2nded by Supervisor Adelita Grijalva, and the vote was 4-0-1. Republican Supervisor Steve Christy abstained.
Rep. Hamilton was elected in Nov. 2020 to the State House for LD 10 and has announced she will be running for election for LD 10 Senate in 2022. Chabin was also a former Coconino County Supervisor in Flagstaff, prior to moving to Tucson in Jan. 2013. He also ran unsuccessfully for Az Corporation Commission in Nov. 2016. At the PC meeting on Sept. 26, he said he will seek election for LD 10 House (not Senate) in 2022.
Since Rep. Hamilton is appointed, there will now be a vacancy in LD 10 House, so the LD 10 PCs have to meet again to nominate 3 names for that appointment.

LD 10 is also represented in the House by Rep. Domingo DeGrazia, who announced that he is not seeking re-election in 2022, after 2 terms in the House. Lots of changes coming up in LD 10.
