Behind his desk in the Oval Office, President Joe Biden called on all Americans to “Lower the temperature in our politics” following the attempted assassination on Donald Trump at a Pennsylvania rally yesterday (July 14, 2024.)
In his remarks, the President struck all the right notes in conveying the need to unite, saying:
“When we disagree, we are not enemies. We’re neighbors. We’re friends. Co workers. Citizens. And most importantly, we’re fellow Americans. We must stand together.”
The President called the volunteer firefighter who died taking a bullet for his family, “a hero.”
Saying that initial investigations on the attempted assassin have not revealed a motive or any affiliations, Mr. Biden said:
“We can not. We must not go down this road in America. We’ve traveled it before in our History. Violence has never been the answer…There’s no place in America for this kind of violence. For any violence, ever. Period. No exceptions. We can’t allow this violence to be normalized…The political rhetoric of this country has gotten very heated. It’s time to turn it down. We all have a responsibility to do that.”
“Disagreement is inevitable in American Democracy. It’s part of human nature. But politics must never be a little battlefield and God forbid, a killing field…We stand for an America, not of extremism and fury, but of decency and grace...No matter how strong our convictions, we must never descend into violence…”
“I’ll continue to speak out strongly for our Democracy. Stand up for our Constitution and the rule of law. To call for action at the ballot box and no violence on our streets. That’s how our Democracy should work. We debate and disagree. We compare and contrast the character of the candidates. The records, the issues, the agenda, the division for America. But in America, we resolve our differences at the ballot box…not with bullets. The power to change America should always rest in the hands of the people, not in the hands of a would be assassin. The competing visions of the country should always resolved peacefully, not through acts of violence.”
“Here in America, everyone must be treated with dignity and respect. And hate must have no safe harbor. Here in America, we need to get out of our silos where we only listen to those with whom we agree. Where misinformation is rampit. Where foreign actors fan the flames of our division to shape the outcomes consistent with their interests, not ours…Nothing is more important now than standing together. We can do this…An American Democracy where arguments are made in good faith. An American Democracy where the rule of law is respected. An American Democracy where dignity, decency, fair play aren’t just quaint notions but living, breathing realities.”
“Let’s never lose sight of who we are. Let’s remember we’re the United States of America. There is nothing beyond our capacity when we do it together.”
The Joe Biden that spoke this evening was the one that the American People voted for in 2020 and Democratic primary voters nominated twice.

Nobody talked about killing anyone last night and the president’s mental condition is still an issue and not violent-provoking hyperbole, like calling Trump a dictator or Biden a commie.
Your guy was dozing off at his own convention. He did it during the trial in New York as well. Trump’s mental condition is also an issue John. Take care.

Your side first John. As is evidenced from the first night of the convention with the appearances of Ms. Greene and Mr. Robinson, that does not appear to be the case. How can Republicans turn down the temperature when they have a guest speaker who said “Some people need killing.” Broadcasting the clip of Biden falling was below the belt. Remember when Trump walked up the ramp to Air Force One dragging toilet paper.
